"On behalf of the Family Law and Family Rights Committee of LAWASIA, I extend a very warm welcome to everyone to the 9th LAWASIA Family Law and Children’s Rights Conference (FLCRC). The FLCRC, one of LAWASIA’s marquee conferences, returns after 12 years to the Pearl of the Orient, the beautiful island of Penang, Malaysia from 12 to 14 June 2025.
The FLCRC returns to an in-person conference and presents a fantastic opportunity and a forum for family law practitioners, academics, the judiciary, mental health professionals and like-minded people from different jurisdictions with a passion and dedication in the practice of family law to come together to share their expertise and knowledge and to network with each other in friendship and fellowship and to be part of the LAWASIA family.
The conference program offers a mix of international and progressive issues comprising a keynote address and includes a breadth of session topics which focusses on Surrogacy and Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART): Rights of the Child and Parental Rights, Appropriate Dispute Resolution: Beyond Mediation, Arbitration and Collaborative Family Practice, Same Sex Marriages and Families, Challenges faced by LGBTQ+, Raising The Voice of The Child: Can They Be Heard, Should They Be Heard, Must They Be Heard, Domestic Violence and Harassment, Mental Health Awareness and Challenges Facing Family Lawyers, culminating with the traditional Judges’ Forum.
Speaking about tradition, since 2014 in Sapporo, LAWASIA has collaborated with the International Academy of Family Lawyers who will present a half day symposium as a prelude to the conference. LAWASIA is once again pleased to collaborate with the IAFL.
I look forward to an exciting, thought-provoking conference and to welcoming each and every one of you to Penang in June 2025!"
